The Ethics Committee of PANLAR promotes research and practice in Rheumatology from a bioethical approach, advising on ethical matters and ensuring values of professional excellence for the benefit of patients in the Americas.

Objectives of the group
Â
- Stimulate and promote the study and research of rheumatic diseases for their prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, benefiting patients with rheumatic diseases in the Americas from a bioethical perspective.
- Encourage the continuous development of Rheumatology as a specialty in service to human life.
Functions of the group
Â
- Advise PANLAR on bioethical and medical ethics issues.
- Promote and ensure the practice of ethical and moral principles and values among all members and administrative staff of PANLAR, fostering standards that lead to medical professionalism of excellence.
- VSafeguard the practice of Rheumatology as a moral enterprise, grounded on ethically firm foundations, promoting the interests of those it serves.
- Establish a body that allows for guidance and support to PANLAR members regarding the preparation and approval of reports, proposals, recommendations, and other documents that the Board or members of the Societies consider to have ethical implications.
- Create a mechanism through which any PANLAR member can be evaluated from an ethical standpoint if their professional conduct warrants it. Such evaluations and their conclusions will be strictly confidential and may be communicated to the Board if there are strong grounds to do so.
