PANLAR Certification Course “Ultrasound in Rheumatology”
The course in its first stage will be developed through an e-learning platform that will consist of 14 modules that will be available on the online platform.
Each module consists of audiovisual classes from teachers, explanatory videos of ultrasound technique, interactive exercises and teaching materials. There will also be an interactive forum for sending and exchanging ultrasound images and periodic virtual interactions with teachers through webinars.
To make the certification process effective, the participant must pass a theoretical exam and a practical exam (hands-on) that will be scheduled on the occasion of each PANLAR annual congress.
At the end of the process, and once the theoretical and practical exams have been passed, the participant will receive the PANLAR Certification for ultrasound in Rheumatology.
Who can access the Certification Program?
Health professionals with interest in ultrasound applied to Rheumatology.
- Professionals who have experience and previous training in Ultrasound in Rheumatology:
Requirements:
- They can directly access the theoretical-practical exam as long as they prove they have at least 3 years of experience in ultrasound (through sworn statement) and have attended at least three ultrasound courses in rheumatology, one of which must have been taught or endorsed by PANLAR. or one of the Rheumatology societies belonging to it.
- The hours of previous courses that must be accredited are a total of 15 (they can be the sum of different courses).
- Have your own or institutional team to carry out exams
- The participant must send a collection of ultrasound images (minimum 50 images of normal and pathological sections) of his/her property so that the certification committee can previously evaluate the quality, technique and adequate interpretation of the findings and consider the candidate qualified for the direct certification exam.
Professionals who have the required experience to directly access the exam, but who wish to participate and take the regular Annual Course, have the right to do so.
- Professionals who DO NOT have previous experience and training in Ultrasound in Rheumatology.
Requirements:

- Be available to take all modules of the certification process.
- Have access to ultrasound equipment (own or institutional). Proof will be requested through a sworn and iconographic declaration of the type of equipment.
- To access the theoretical-practical exam, they will have to take and pass the Annual Course.
In both cases, you must register as follows:
- Send Curriculum Vitae, Cover Letter requesting the PANLAR certification in ultrasound in Rheumatology and photo of the ultrasound equipment you will use.
They must send the two documents in PDF format, with the exception of the photos, in a single email to secretaria@panlar.org

Your application will be reviewed by the program coordinators and you will be notified if your registration was processed correctly.
Final evaluation and practical exam.
This consists of a theoretical-practical evaluation that will measure skills and use of learning. The theoretical evaluation will be carried out at the completion of the 14 virtual modules, and if approved, you will be able to access the practical exam that will be carried out on the occasion of each PANLAR annual congress.
- Theoretical exam: it will consist of 40 multiple choice questions, which will also include images of clinical ultrasound cases.
- Practical exam: it will be carried out through a rotation through different stations with different teachers where each student will be evaluated in terms of technique and interpretation of ultrasound findings in healthy people and those with pathology.
Obtaining the PANLAR Certification in Ultrasound
The participant must prove participation in 100% of the activities of the certification process
To achieve Certification, all candidates must pass both the theoretical and practical evaluation.
Duration
For the 2024 edition, the duration of the e-learning will be 4 months.
Costs
Free access for 50 places, they will be assigned in the order in which the application is sent as long as the people meet the profile mentioned above.
Dates:
- December 11, 2023: Start of the Ultrasound Course (access to the e-learning Modules begins)
- March 25, 2024: Final Theoretical Exam (multiple choice)
- Practical Certification Exam: during the PANLAR Congress in Barranquilla (April 10 to 13, 2024)
