PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL ORGANIZING COMMITIEE
Â
Â
WELCOME
Â
Dear colleagues and friends,
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Â
In the new PANLAR we have a renewed structure and by-laws. Therefore we renew our commitment as a society of societies that gives full value to all its members’ actions.
Â
As part of this great collective effort underway, we are now giving more support to the Study Groups, in order tn highly develop and promote the scientific research and teaching activities among our members.
Â
All these actions allow us to fully meet the objectives of PANLAR: to encourage and promote the study and research of rheumatic diseases for their prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, for the benefit of patients with rheumatic diseases in the Americas, and to stimulate the continuing development of Rheumatology.
Â
Within this enthusiastic and committed context, I have the honor to extend a warm welcome to the XIX Congress of the Pan American League of Associations for Rheumatology (PANLAR), which this time will be held from April 10 to 14, 2016, at the Megapolis Convention Center in Panama City, Panama.
Â
Also, it is my great pleasure to present to you the PANLAR 2016 Pre-Congress Courses, on integrated imaging in spondyloarthritis, clinical anatomy and pediatric rheumatology, which will be conducted by the PANLAR Study Groups, on April 10, 2016, in the same venue.
Â
As a result of months of meticulous planning, the PANLAR Education and Scientific Advisory Committee and the Local Scientific Committee offer an ambitious program with a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal and rheumatic conditions, ranging from tropical rheumatology to rare autoinflammatory conditions.
Â
All these issues are addressed through lectures in basic science, clinical practice, symposia, oral and poster presentations, case discussions, workshops, and special interest group sessions.
Â
The aim of the scientific program is to update, disseminate and promote pathophysiologic aspects, disability prevention, early diagnosis, treatment advances, translational rehabilitation and rheumatology, among other mechanisms. Additionally, we have a scientific-technological exhibition and diverse cultural activities.
Â
I wish to emphasize that, for the first time, we have the invaluable participation of several international leagues as EULAR, ACR, APLAR and ILAR. Similarly, scientific symposia dedicated to research organizations, such as OARSI Group, who honor us with their collaboration in this great event, will take place.
Â
We are also honored with the presence of distinguished professors, the best specialists in rheumatology and health professionals, from all over the Americas and even from other continents, who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences, for a wide dissemination of Rheumatology.
Â
We also have a notorious group of rheumatic patients, their contributions and opinions strengthen, validate, enrich, and give meaning to the rheumatologist’s daily work.
Â
We welcome the hospitality, warmth and great amenities offered by the modern city of Panama, centennial link between the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean, thanks to the magnificent water engineering works of its Canal.
Â
Finally, on behalf of the PANLAR Executive Committee, my heartfelt appreciation to the great professionalism of the Panamanian Society of Rheumatology, acting as the host National Association. To all the participants, speakers, sponsors and organizers, our sincere gratitude for the work, talent and commitment that you have demonstrated, for making this magnificent Congress possible.
Â
Once more, the enthusiasm, interest and passion for Rheumatology brings us together to share our accumulated knowledge and experience, which will allow us to improve our patients’ quality of life.
Â
Please be all welcome!
PANLAR is on the move.
