Diagnostic approach course of patients with joint pain

2 Febrero 2022

Presentation

The idea of holding this course was born from the limited availability of human resources in rheumatology in Latin America, with only one rheumatologist for every 106,838 inhabitants, which was documented in a recent publication led by PANLAR. Given the small number of rheumatologists in the region, it is necessary for internists and other specialties involved in the initial clinical approach to patients with joint pain to have better knowledge about the subject, and to have tools that allow them to address the patient with joint pain.

In this sense, at PANLAR we have worked on the design of an algorithm that will allow the doctor to have a clearer approach to patients with joint pain and suspected rheumatic disease, an algorithm that was tested in a clinical experiment, in which it was demonstrated which, when used by primary care physicians, significantly improves the proportion of correct diagnoses, and leads to fewer laboratory tests being requested, thus optimizing the approach to patients with joint pain.
